It’s almost September, believe it or not, and if you’re starting to think about school, you should take a look at the Orca website’s new section for teachers. We’ve reorganized our free teachers’ guides, sorted Orca Currents and Orca Soundings by theme and suggested some classroom activities.
We’re also starting a teaching idea contest. Each month the person with the best new way to use Orca Soundings in the classroom will win $40 in books.

It’s time to get interactive. The new Orca Readers section has activities, fun facts, useful resources, reader reviews and a discussion forum. Get involved in the books, get in touch with other readers and most of all, have fun!

Orca is hiring a Promotions Coordinator / Marketing and Publicity Assistant.
Responsibilities include:
- - Obtaining media coverage, planning book launches and public events
- - Developing relationships with media, booksellers, librarians and festival organizers (established relationships are an asset)
- - Planning all aspects of author tours, media appearances and public events
- - Acting as publicist and sometimes escort
- - Arranging all aspects of book launches (venues, catering, invitations, equipment)
- - Writing of press materials (press releases and author bios), as well as promotional materials (posters, bookmarks invitations)
- - Promoting all titles where appropriate
